Walden Extends Deal of GM Goodell

Walden – The Walden Warriors and General Manager Paul Goodell came to terms on a contract extension Tuesday.

Goodell was hired during the 2007 season. During the 2 years prior to 2007, the Warriors’ record was 315-423-56 (.432 Win PCT). The Warriors won their league-leading 3rd ICA championship in 2009.

“The Warriors have been good to me,” said Goodell. “I've been a Walden Warrior since my first day in the Illinois Chooch Association, and I'm happy that we could come to an agreement that will keep me [here] for the long term.”

“Paul’s presence has helped this organization turn around 360 degrees,” said owner Tom Lyons from his Madison, WI home.

“He means 180 degrees,” replied Goodell.

Lyons continued, “Our team has come a long way with Paul on the clock. He’s saved us from a number of boneheaded decisions, any one of which could easily have set our team back years.”

Before hiring Goodell, the Warriors had worsened substantially after 3 consecutive playoff appearances – including back-to-back Fuggin Finals championships – in the league’s first three years.

“We sucked ass,” said Lyons. “Crikes, JD Closser was our starting catcher one year. What the hell were we thinking? We won it all [last season] because we nailed the drafts in 2008 and 2009. That was largely Paul’s doing,” he said.

Goodell’s current deal with Walden expires in February of 2011. He will now remain under contract through the 2013 ICA season with a club option for 2014.

He continued, “Now that the contract situation is dealt with, I look forward to putting all of my energies toward helping the Warriors repeat as champions of the Illinois Chooch Association."

Financial terms of the extension were not disclosed. Goodell is rumored to be the ICA’s highest paid general manager.

Trade Update

The Outlaw Stars are sending either their 4th round pick or the 4th round pick acquired from Newman's Renegades (whichever is the later pick) to the Upper Deck Bleacher Bums for RP Kerry Wood.

Trade

Wyoming trades:
Cole Hamels

Walden trade:
Daisuke Matsuzaka
Joey Votto

If Philadelphia is drawn MR, Walden can rescind the trade up to one week after the winter meeting. Same for Wyoming if Cincy or Boston are drawn.

Sunday, November 02, 2008

Wyoming sends:
7th Round '09 Pick

Bums sends:
Jeff Clement
Wyoming sends:
John Lackey

Walden sends:
Mark Teixeira

Further, if Lackey's 2009 HR/9IP is not lower than 1.05, Wyoming sends a 2011 5th round pick.

Trade to Report

Outlaw sends:
-Newman's 2010 2nd round pick
and
-a claim on an Outlaw Star minor leaguer through 2011
-future considerations*

Walden sends:
-Rich Harden.
-future considerations*

*I'll be proposing a rule change at the winter meeting (just one this year, I swear). I'll propose to legalize the trade of minor league picks. I suspect that will pass. If I'm wrong and it doesn't pass, this trade stands as is and both of us are cool with it. If it does pass, Weiland's 2011 claim option will convert into a 1st round minor league pick in 2010.

Bill Simmons on Irrationality

Irrational Grudges (+4.5) over JULIUS JONES
When Matt Berry mentioned my "Fantasy Kryptonite" concept in his Week 5 column, I realized my Kryptonite is unquestionably Brandon Lloyd. He just keeps luring me back in. I think he could convince me to strip naked and let him take photos of me as I cried like Irene Cara in "Fame." I would do it for him. Brandon, you're my man. Anyway, I have a flip side to that one, the "Fantasy Grudge" guy, aka the guy you inexplicably dislike and continue to dismiss even when he's doing well. For me, it's Julius Jones. I found out two years ago that he smokes cigarettes and I just can't think rationally about him after that. He could rush for 200 yards a game and be sitting there on the waiver wire and I wouldn't go near him because I fear he'd pulled a Ricardo Mayorga on me. He might have quit smoking; I don't care. He's out.

-----
It's tough to not have an irrational grudge on most Cubs. Any other specific players?
